Tigers off to strong start
By Staff Writer

Sarah Reed came to Tiger Stadium Friday night and once again left with a demoralizing defeat. A strong tiger defense and powerful offense led the Tigers to a 39-0 victory over the Olympians.
With 9:12 remaining in the first quarter the Tigers put their first points on the board with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Bryant Lee to Terrance Isaac. Isaac would go on to score Hahnville’s first three touchdowns with two runs of 1 and 2 yards respectively. Hahnville was unsuccessful on it first extra point try but was able to convert a two-point play after Issac’s second touchdown. Bryant Lee completed a pass to Gerren Stipe for the conversion. The tiger kicker Drew LeBlanc also missed his next extra point attempt and at the end of the first quarter the Tigers led 20-0.
The Tiger defense dominated the under matched Olympian offense. The only big play the Olympians could muster was an 80-yard touchdown pass with 8:41 remaining in the first, which was negated due to a false start penalty. The Purple Haze defense only yielded 9 yards and four first downs. The defense also produced a safety when defensive linemen Kentrell Lockett sacked Reed’s quarterback in the enzone halfway through the third quarter. This year’s tiger defense is expected to be strong and proved that Friday night.
The Tigers increased their lead with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter when sophomore Darwin Washington scored with a 39 yard run. LeBlanc’s extra point attempt was good and the Tigers went into halftime with a commanding 27-0 lead.
The Tiger starters saw limited action in the second half yielding to younger backups. While the starters remained in the game, Isaac went on to score his fourth touchdown of the night with a 28-yard TD run. This increased the lead to 34-0. Isaac, who rushed for 120 yards on 15 carriers, finished with 192 total yards and four touchdowns.
The Tiger defense recorded two late interceptions in the fourth quarter. Stephen Picard made a nice diving interception with 5:56 remaining, and senior Ryne Madere closed the game out with an interception with 31 seconds left in the game.
Tiger special teams had it ups and downs throughout the game. Senior Daron Friloux was able to block a Reed punt in the third quarter. Another highlight of the night was a 22-yard field goal by freshmen kicker Devin Samaha. The only downfall of the night was on special teams when the Tigers missed two early extra points. The positive is that LeBlanc came back to make two extra points later in the game.
Coach Valdin emphasized the importance on eliminating mistakes to his club after the game. Coach praised his guys for a terrific effort, but he also noted that next week’s game would be a lot tougher. The Tigers will play Destrehan next week in an early District match up.
