Well Balanced Attack Dominates Patriots

Not even Hurricane Ivan could stop the Hahnville Tigers from continuing their dominance in District 6-5A. The Tigers took on the Ellender Patriots on Sunday evening at Tiger Stadium. Friday night’s game was postponed due to Hurricane evacuations.
Both defenses started off strong in the scoreless first quarter. Ellender turned the ball over on downs with 8:24 left in the first. And Hahnville followed by turning the ball over on a failed fourth and long.
With 11:04 remaining in the 2nd Quarter the Tigers got their first points on the board with a 5-yard run by Terrance Issac. LeBlanc converted the extra point and the Tigers led 7-0. Hahnville scored again with 3:26 left in the second when quarterback Bryant Lee connected with tight end James Hymel for a 12-yard touchdown.
Hahnville’s special teams had another good showing this week. The tiger punt return team forced Ellender’s punter Lee Green to fumble the punt as he tried to kick it. Kentrell Lockett recovered the fumble on Ellender’s 30-yard line. Bryant Lee scrambled from 8 yards out and the Tigers increased their lead to 21-0.
On the next play, the Tiger kickoff team got into the action by forcing a fumble on the kickoff. Donald Bryson recovered the ball on the 8-yard line with 0:41 left in the half. Lee threw a pass to Brain Singleton from 2 yards out for the fourth Tiger touchdown. The extra point by LeBlanc was good and the Tigers went into half with a 28-0 lead.
It didn’t take the Tiger offense long to get started in the second half. One the first play from scrimmage Isaac broke it loose for a 77-yard touchdown. LeBlanc’s extra point was blocked and the Tigers had a 34-0 lead with 11:39 left in the third. Isaac ended the day with 174 yards rushing on 20 carriers.
With 9:15 left in the third, several personal fouls were called on both teams and players were ejected on both sides. When play resumed, Jordan Stephany fumbled a handoff and the Patriots recovered on the Hahnville 45-yard line.
Ellender drove down into the red zone but the Tiger defense held with an interception in the enzone by sophomore Shane Boyle. The defense shut out the Patriot offense and recorded three sacks on the day. The Tigers have not allowed a touchdown in three games and have recorded two shutouts.
The second team offense kept the scoring going in the fourth quarter with touchdown runs by Jeremy Barnes and Donald Bryson. The Tigers also added a two-point conversion on a reverse by Singleton. The Tigers showed some class by kneeling on the next two point conversion in an effort to keep the score down. The Tigers went on to win by a score of 48-0.
