The Hahnville defense came into Friday night’s game at Destrehan and
made its presence felt early and often. The Purple Haze allowed only two wildcat
field goals and forced 3 turnovers including a 4th down stance with 9 seconds
remaining in the game. Cripper Lanaux led the defense with 5 sacks and numerous
quarterback knockdowns. Lanaux was virtually unstoppable against the wildcat
line. Roussel, Diggs, and Dempster also had sacks on the night. Ryne Madere
contributed with his second interception of the year mid way through the fourth
quarter.
Hahnville’s offense got off to a quick start early in the first quarter
when quarterback Bryant Lee connected with junior Brian Singleton for a 33-yard
touchdown pass. Leblanc added the extra point and the Tigers were ahead 7-0
with 9:55 remaining in the first quarter. The Tiger offense would cool down
after the first drive and turned the ball over three times in the first half,
two of them coming on downs.
Destrehan capitalized on a Hahnville fumble in the first quarter with a 37-yard
field goal by Kyle Tizzard. Tizzard added another 37 yarder in the second quarter
to bring the score to 7-6 in favor of the Tigers. That was the last time Destrehan
would add to the scoreboard.
In the second half Hahnville’s special teams and offense came alive while
their defense remained dominate. Terrance Isaac ran for a 68-yard touchdown
with 7:07 remaining in the third quarter. Leblanc added the extra point and
the Tigers extended their lead to 14-6.
Tiger special teams also had a great night against the wildcats. Punt returner
Kemon Jacobs had two long punt returns, one for a touchdown. In the first quarter
Jacobs returned a punt for 45 yards that was aided by a devastating block by
Kentrell Lockett. Then early in the fourth quarter Jacobs took a wildcat punt
60 yards for a touchdown and widen the Tiger lead to 21-6 with a Leblanc extra
point.
Terrance Isaac put the nail in the wildcat coffin when he rushed for his second
touchdown from 23 yards out. Issac ended the night with 246 yards rushing and
two scores. Isaac who is being called upon to replace last year’s starter
Reynard has already rushed for 366 yards in only two games.
The Tiger defense held the wildcats to 29 yards rushing and 136 yards passing.
The defense showed a lot of heart by playing to the final whistle. They forced
Destrehan to turn the ball over on downs in the red zone late in the game. This
allowed the defense to record it second straight game without a touchdown.
